Riverbed Stories (2015) is a short experimental HD video that documents an area of south east London along two riverbeds – a place of natural beauty polluted by fly-tipping. It was screened at '23:57', video screening for exhibition and residency series at Fuse Art Space, Bradford in 2015, and at the 22nd International Independent Film Festival PUBLICYSTYKA, Poland in 2015.
Riverbed Stories is a short experimental video that documents an area of south east London along two riverbeds - a place of natural beauty polluted by fly-tipping. Mattresses, chairs, televisions and car tyres litter the beds, along with hand-less gloves, floating shoes and discarded baby carriages.
Many mattresses lie semi-submerged in water or abandoned in the grass along the banks. I was thinking of whom they might have belonged to - of bodies being comforted and falling into sleep. It's poignant seeing these mattresses strewn along the side of the river - the loss of an intimate history.
The video is a personal response to this damaged landscape and its connection with human interaction, presence, and loss.
