October seems to have gone really quickly. I decided to have some days out by the sea and on one trip visited the Port Hotel in Eastbourne, where my video Frame has been playing, and then went onto Seaford, stopping off for walks at Beachy Head and Birling Gap. Another day I visited Margate to see the Turner Contemporary Open exhibition and meet with a friend. A third trip was to Bristol to visit the Books on Photography Festival as I knew many photographers would be there that weekend. It was also an opportunity to see Stephen Gill’s excellent exhibition at the Arnolfini.
From Chalk video
Earlier this month I finished my video, Chalk. I had begun the project in May and had been shooting material on the south coast on and off throughout the summer and autumn. The video is about chalk from landscape to language, how it’s used to communicate ideas, is tied to myth, English tradition, history and ideas of English national identity. At the moment the video is password protected so if you’d like to view it, just drop me a message.
I haven’t had the opportunity to spend much time on Disrupted Landscapes this month, but will be picking it up again in November. This is one of the recent images.
In addition to the East Meets West Masterclass - which had a great session with Revolv this month - I was also one of three photographers invited to select the annual London Independent Photography exhibition. Bill Jackson, Mick Williamson and myself worked on the selection this month under the guidance of the exhibition organiser Claudiu Burlacu and the exhibition goes online 1 November.
